FAQ
About the Artwork
What is Cedar Dragon art?
Handcrafted cedar artwork created with laser engraving, natural wood grain, and painted or finished details. Coryon Redd, lead artist in residence, gathers inspiration from myths, nature, outdoor spaces and even UFOs. Whether it is a realistic majestic fox or a mining town with hovering UFOs, each piece is loaded with artistry and whimsy. We have an animated conversation with each piece of wood to uncover what it wants to be.
Is each piece one of a kind?
Yes. Each piece of laser engraved art has its own grain, knots, cracks, rings, shape, and natural markings, so no two pieces are exactly alike. We focus on cedar but you can find other wood types such as: redwood, sycamore, black walnut, claro walnut, 100 year old douglas fir, cottonwood, and more.
Will my piece look exactly like the photo?
Each piece is unique, so natural variations in the wood and finish are part of the artwork’s character. We are happy to email you with a picture of the piece before we send it.
Are the pieces painted?
At Cedar Dragon, we love painting our art but not every time. Some pieces are painted with acrylic paint, some are engraved and sealed without paint. We have a conversation with the wood and and the art and it tells us what it wants to be.
Can I request a different version of a design?
Probably not but it’s worth a shot. We enjoy conversations with our enthusiastic customers and sometimes that leads to variations or new designs based on the creative interaction.
Display and Care
Can Cedar Dragon art be displayed outdoors?
Yes, all of the cedar art has been sealed and designed to last for years outside - in the wind and the rain and the sun. Cedar Dragon art is displayed around the Sierra Nevadas in gardens, patios, and backyards.
How should I care for my cedar art?
Keep it out of harsh prolonged weather when possible, and bring it indoors or under cover during extreme rain, snow, or intense exposure. (We tend to leave our our art outside to see how it weathers and changes over time.)
Will cedar change over time?
Yes. Cedar is a natural material and may shift, weather, deepen, lighten, or develop more character over time.
How do I hang or display my piece?
Each piece includes a back mounted hanger to allow easy display.
